VANCOUVER, BC – The win streak ends but the unbeaten run continues for Seattle Sounders FC 2 who earned a draw on the road against conference leaders Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Saturday afternoon, now having six straight results with at least a point.
Seattle opened the scoring in the 36th minute when defender Jordy Delem forced a turnover, trotted up the field and played a slick though ball into the enemy area to midfielder Zach Mathers. Mathers made no mistake and coolly slipped it passed 'Caps keeper Marco Carducci for the 1-0 lead going into the break.
Vancouver came roaring back in the second half with a goal of their own in the 54th minute. On a play engineered by midfielder Marco Bustos, striker Daniel Haber struck far post past goalkeeper Charlie Lyon. It was Haber's fifth straight match with a goal or assist.
Forward Myron Samuel, coming off of two-goal game on Monday, had his chance to be the hero once again with a pair of chances in stoppage time. On the first, Samuel put the ball just millimeters over the bar after timing his run perfectly to stay onside. The second, a play set up brilliantly by midfielder Emir Alihodzic, finished with Samuel smashing the ball right into Carducci’s hands who had positioned himself perfectly for the game-preserving save.
Next, S2 travel down to Rio Grande Valley on Saturday, Aug 13 (5 p.m. PT, livestream on SoundersFC.com).
