FENTON, MO – Seattle Sounders FC 2 earned a 1-1 draw on the road in St. Louis on Wednesday night against Saint Louis FC.
Midfielder Emir Alihodzic scored his first professional goal in the match to open the scoring in the 12th minute. The goal came on a mistake by St. Louis goalkeeper Ryan Thompson who came outside of the area in an attempt to make a clearance. The ball was mishandled, leaving forward Andy Craven to pounce on it and chip over the defender into Alihodzic. With a deft touch off his head, Alihodzic placed the ball into the far post corner for the match's opening goal.
S2 managed to hold the lead for the majority of the game until the St. Louis front line finally broke through in the 86th minute. A deep throw-in created chaos in the box for S2, leaving defender Sam Fink with the opportunity for a header of his own. The match ended on a 1-1 draw after a hefty seven minutes of stoppage time.
S2 return to Starfire Stadium on Sunday to square off against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (5 p.m. PT, livestream on SoundersFC.com).
