The Major Arena Soccer League’s Tacoma Stars will honor Seattle Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer at the Stars’ match against the St. Louis Ambush at the ShoWare Center in Kent, Wash., on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 3:05 p.m. PT.
Schmetzer will perform the ceremonial first kick prior to the match. He spent seven years playing professional indoor soccer, including three with Tacoma from 1988-90.
“I’m very much looking forward to coming down to support the Stars and my good friend and colleague Darren Sawatzky,” Schmetzer said. “The Stars are a big part of our soccer community here in the Northwest, and I have always enjoyed the environment at their matches.”
Said Stars owner Lane Smith: “We are incredibly excited to host Brian for our ceremonial first kick this weekend as we continue our end-of-season push into the MASL playoffs. The pairing could not be more perfect, as Brian and the Stars have both worked extensively to build and empower the game of soccer in the Pacific Northwest.”
The Stars are currently 9-7 on the season and in second place in the four-team Pacific division in MASL.
