Over the weekend, Seattle-area buildings and landmarks lit up blue in honor of the late Paul Allen, the Seattle Sounders and Seahawks owner. Buildings taking part in the coordinated tribute included CenturyLink Field, the Amazon Spheres, the Space Needle, the Great Wheel and the Russell Investments Center.
Along with Adrian Hanauer, Joe Roth and Drew Carey, Allen was part of the Sounders’ ownership group that was announced in November 2007. During the inaugural season in 2009, the Sounders became the standard-bearer for the league, reaching the MLS Cup Playoffs, winning the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and setting a new single-season attendance record while playing matches at CenturyLink Field, which is managed by Allen’s First & Goal Inc.
Allen died on Oct. 15 at age 65 after complications of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
