After a short stint at home where Sounders FC 2 dismantled the Arizona United SC defense with four goals, the Rave Green hits the road again for yet another top-of-the-table test against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
Along with LA Galaxy II, S2 and Switchbacks FC have been trading time as leaders of the USL Western Conference. Both clubs have a chance to jump to the front of the pack yet again with a victory, while S2 can push to a first-place tie with a draw.
Switchbacks FC enter Saturday’s contest with a plus-15 goal differential, good for third in the entire league, and first in the conference. The club is led by Luke Vercollone who has eight goals and seven assists, directly contributing nearly half of Switchbacks FC’s goals in 2015. He is tied for the team lead in goals with Miguel Gonzalez, who also has four assists.
“We know they are a good team, and they are going to be gunning for that first place position,” said S2 Head Coach Ezra Hendrickson. “We are going to work on finishing games out on the road the same way we do at home.”
S2’s leading goal scorer Pablo Rossi went down late in the previous match and had to be stretchered off the pitch. Both Rossi and Oalex Anderson scored in the match, with both unable to go the full 90 minutes due to injury. Sounders FC Academy’s Diego Silvas and Nathaniel Tongovula both appeared as substitutes in the match, and have both played forward for S2 in 2015.
Newly-signed S2 goalkeeper Tyler Miller made his debut in Rave Green against Arizona United SC, making two saves in the shutout performance.
Kickoff for Saturday’s match is slated for 6:00 p.m. PT, and will be live-streamed on SoundersFC.com.
