TUKWILA, Wash. - Seattle Sounders FC 2 return to action looking to break back into the win column on the road Wednesday (5 p.m. PT, Live Stream on ESPN3), facing off against St. Louis FC for the first time in franchise history at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
St. Louis will present a formidable challenge for S2 as the Midwestern side currently sit in sixth in the West with 22 points, while S2 are struggling to keep their head above water in fourteenth with 13 points.
To add difficulty to this fixture, S2 will play without midfielder Zach Mathers - who scored in last weekend’s match in Sacramento - and defender Michael Nelson, who leads the team in minutes. Both players were called up to play in the Sounders' international friendly against West Ham United on Tuesday night in Seattle.
Wednesday's match will mark the first time that the center back duo of Nelson and Tony Alfaro will be absent, leaving the likes of Brandon John and Jordy Delem as the likely combination at center back on Wednesday.
