Community and development have been two of the driving words behind S2 since day one. The words even appear on the team’s inaugural scarf.
Today, the team showed just how important those pillars are by announcing a new partnership for the 2015 season with Sounders FC supporters group, Gorilla FC. As part of the new partnership, Gorilla FC has purchased a number of Founders Club memberships through the Sounders Community Trust, which will be offered to its members. The group will also get tickets in section 203 at Starfire Stadium that will be made available for Gorilla FC to donate to community partners through their CIVic Tickets program.
“I'm excited to see the value that Sounders FC 2 has placed on being part of its community,” said Gorilla FC President Andrew Drake. “Gorilla FC is proud to partner with S2 in expanding CIVic Tickets to include Starfire Stadium. I can't wait to see the words of the S2 scarf, ‘Development and Community,’ raised along with GFC's ‘Glory Fellowship Community’ scarves as S2 players take the field."
The Gorilla FC CIVic Tickets program provides tickets to nonprofits and charity organizations in the greater Puget Sound, and will donate S2 tickets for the team’s inaugural season. Organizations receiving donations from Gorilla FC in the past include The Vera Project, Youth Care, Seattle Works and the Boys and Girls Club of King County. Any remaining tickets in section 203 will be distributed to Gorilla FC membership.
“Community involvement and access to soccer is very important to S2. Since 2012, Gorilla’s CIVic ticket program has been providing access to the Sounders to people who might not otherwise have the chance to see a game,” said S2 General Manager Andrew Opatkiewicz. “The opportunity to extend the program to include groups at S2 matches is a natural fit. We’re excited to help support Gorilla in achieving its inclusive, community-minded goals.”
Both S2 and Gorilla FC have set a goal to provide access to the sport of soccer through ticket offers and community initiatives, which will be used to include more Sounders interaction in the South Puget Sound, as well as local partnerships within the Starfire Sports and Tukwila communities. Currently, Gorilla FC also donates two club level seats to each First Team home match at CenturyLink Field.
