It was a historic moment for Panama, one filled with pregame tears, but Román Torres and Los Canaleros dropped their first-ever World Cup match 3-0 to Belgium in the opening Group G match at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Torres captained Panama and went all 90 minutes in the defeat. The Panamanians had a strong first half and held the No. 3 team in the world to a scoreless draw, but a Dries Merterns wonder volley just after the break and a Romelu Lukaku brace in six minutes took all three points for the Red Devils.
Panama will take on England on Matchday 2 on Sunday, June 24, in Niznhy Novgorod at 5 a.m. PT.
