Following Sunday's 2-0 loss at the Philadelphia Union on Sunday, the Sounders now take part in a league-wide international break ahead of this month's FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Seven Sounders have been called into international duty for their respective countries: Clint Dempsey (USA), Nicolás Lodeiro (Uruguay), Román Torres (Panama), Joevin Jones (Trinidad & Tobago), Gustav Svensson (Sweden), Nouhou (Cameroon) and Oniel Fisher (Jamaica). All will play in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers except for Fisher, as Jamaica will face Saudi Arabia in a friendly.
Two players in particular, Lodeiro and Torres, have already taken to social media prior to their matches. Lodeiro and Uruguay visit Venezuela on Oct. 5 and host Bolivia on Oct. 10. Torres’ Panama, meanwhile, play the United States in Orlando on Oct. 6 and host Costa Rica on Oct. 10.
Once again, Lodeiro has buddied up with national teammate and star FC Barcelona striker Luis Suarez. Last month, Lodeiro brought Suarez a Sounders jersey when they were both called-in to Uruguay's national team. On Tuesday, Suarez posted this adorable selfie from a hotel room.
Good luck, guys!
