The Seattle Sounders played Red Bull New York to a scoreless draw at Lumen Field in Seattle on Saturday night.
Albert Rusnák had a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the 19th minute when Dejan Joveljić played a ball into Rusnák’s path inside the box, but Red Bulls goalkeeper Ethan Horvath made a massive save to keep the score level.
The Sounders had another chance in the 31st minute when Paul Rothrock got down the left flank and played a cross looking for Jordan Morris, but it just missed Morris’ head.
Morris had a breakaway in the 42nd minute as he dribbled the entire half of the field before Horvath made another incredible stop to deny Morris at the near post with his left hand.
Snyder Brunell, who entered as a first-half substitute for Kalani Kossa-Rienzi, volleyed a cross off the near post in the 51st minute after a flurry off Sounders attacks to open the second half.
Rothrock got a shot off from the right side of the box in the 57th minute, but it was right into the arms of Horvath.
Horvath came up with yet another monster stop in the 65th minute when he dove to his left to parry away a Rusnák free kick from the top of the box that was destined for the far corner.
Horvath came up with two more massive saves in the 70th minute, first diving to deny a Joveljić header before getting big to stuff a Brunell shot from close range.
Sounders goalkeeper Andrew Thomas made a gigantic stop of his own in the 74th minute when Julian Hall was played in behind on the left side, but Thomas did well to cut off the angle and push it out for a corner.
Nouhou marauded through the Red Bulls defense in the 75th minute and fired a shot from the left side of the box, but the effort went over the crossbar.
Rothrock had another wonderful chance a minute later when Sebastian Gomez played a low cross to the back post for an onrushing Rothrock, but he mishit his shot and it went wide.
Hassani Dotson rose for a big header in the 84th minute off a Sounders corner kick routing, but his shot went over the bar.
Gomez had another solid chance in the 86th minute when he was clipped in behind, but his shot missed wide at the near post.
Thomas made a fantastic stop in the first minute of stoppage time to deny Eric Choupo-Moting’s redirected effort and keep the game level.
Paul Arriola looked to win the match in the fourth minute of stoppage time, but his shot rattled the crossbar and stayed out.
The Sounders finish the match 13th in the Western Conference with 27 points from 22 matches (7-9-6).

Following lengthy injury absences, Morris and Cristian Roldan returned to the starting lineup on Saturday. Morris went 45 minutes while Roldan wore the captain’s armband and went 77 minutes.
