The Seattle Sounders and FC Dallas finished the match in a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Lumen Field.
The Sounders showcased a dominant first half, creating several dangerous goal-scoring opportunities from both flanks.
In the 12th minute, the Rave Green nearly opened the scoring when Albert Rusnák laid a perfect through ball to Léo Chú, who crossed it into the box for Raúl RuidÃaz to tap in, but Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes barely got a hold of it.
Then in the 22nd minute, Chú’s cross from the left side landed right to Cristian Roldan's feet in the box, but he ended up hitting the post.
Chú’s persistence paid off just ten minutes later when a low driven ball into the box resulted in FC Dallas defender Sam Junqua scoring an own goal, giving Seattle a 1-0 lead. Â
Dallas remained determined to get a goal before the half, however, and managed to tie it up in the 42nd minute off a diving header from Bernard Kamungo.
The second half was more of a back and forth battle between the two teams.Â
Seattle's most prominent chance came in the 78th minute when Cristian Roldan served a ball across the goal toward the back post for Jordan Morris to redirect the ball with his head, but Paes made a crucial save to deny the lead for the Rave Green.
While both teams had opportunities to win the match, the 90 minutes ended in a draw to close out the night.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Welcome Returns
Morris and Cristian Roldan made their first appearances with the Sounders squad since their departure to the Concacaf Gold Cup with the U.S. Men’s National Team back in early June. Roldan played a full 90 minutes while Morris came in as a substitute in the second half.
Chú Keeps Creating
Chú’s ability to distribute crosses on the left flank is a huge reason why the team came out with a point tonight. While his cross that led to a Dallas own goal didn’t count as an assist, it serves as a reminder of how much of an asset he is in creating chances in the attack.
Next Up: Leagues Cup
Tonight’s match is the final battle for the Rave Green before the league-wide regular season break for the newly revamped Leagues Cup. The Sounders square off against Real Salt Lake in their first match of the tournament on July 22 .
