The Seattle Sounders erased a 2-0 second-half deficit to defeat FC Dallas 3-2 at Lumen Field on Saturday night. Patrickson Delgado and Petar Musa scored in the 66th and 70th minutes, respectively, for the visitors before goals from Raúl Ruidíaz in the 78th minute and a brace from Jordan Morris in the 88th and fourth minute of stoppage time stole all three points.
João Paulo had the match’s first chance in the eighth minute when he tip-toed through the Dallas defense before placing a left-footed shot that just skipped past the far post.
João Paulo came close yet again in the 16th minute when his shot from 25 yards out clipped the near post and ricocheted out of play.
Albert Rusnák forced Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes into a diving save in the 36th minute when his shot from the top of the box seemed destined for the near corner.
Musa, who was coming off a hat-trick performance midweek, fired a shot from 15 yards out in the 56th minute, but it was right at Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei.
FC Dallas took the lead in the 66th minute when Logan Farrington picked up a turnover and whipped a cross into Delgado, who slid at the far post to redirect the ball past Frei.
Musa doubled the lead four minutes later when he received a slip pass in the box and fired a left-footed shot to the far post that Frei got a hand to but couldn’t keep out.
Rusnák forced Paes into another great save in the 77th minute when he ripped a first-timed left-footed shot from the top of the 18 that Paes pushed over the crossbar.
The Sounders halved the deficit a minute later when Ruidíaz rose for a powerful header off a cross from Rusnák and beat Paes.
Paes came up huge in the 87th minute when Cristian Roldan played in a cross to the near post that Obed Vargas redirected on goal.
The Sounders equalized on the ensuing corner when Rusnák played a great ball in that Morris headed into the top corner.
Seattle improbably found a winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Vargas played a beautiful through ball in behind for Morris, who capitalized on the breakaway by beating Paes at the near post.
Dallas’ futility in Seattle continued, having not won at Lumen Field since 2011. Dallas also remains winless on the road on the season (0-7-3).
The Sounders have two more matches in their three-game homestand over the next couple weeks. Seattle will welcome the Chicago Fire next Saturday (7:30 p.m. PT; MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360AM | TICKETS) before hosting the New England Revolution on July 6.
THREE TAKEAWAYS
Comeback Kids Volume II
For the second time in four days, the Sounders erased a 2-0 deficit. After going down two goals in Houston on Wednesday and clawing back for a draw, Seattle one-upped itself by scoring three goals in the final 12 minutes to stun FC Dallas.
Morris comes up clutch
What a moment for Morris, who scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season in dramatic fashion. The brace came in a six-minute span to kickstart the Sounders’ three-match homestand with a crucial three points.
Ruidíaz adds to team lead
Ruidíaz scored his eighth goal of the season to extend his team-lead. He now has 72 regular-season tallies in his illustrious Sounders career.
