199 AND COUNTING

In 2009, Sigi Schmid became the winningest coach in MLS history and he has progressively added to that win total ever since, checking off various milestones along the way. With Seattle’s 12th win of the year on Sunday, his career regular season win total hit 199 as he narrows in on another milestone that will come with his 200th win.

Seattle’s next regular season match will be on July 28 at CenturyLink Field against the LA Galaxy, who are led by the league’s No. 2 man on the all-time wins list in Bruce Arena.

SOUNDERS FC FAN UP FOR LEAGUEWIDE HONORS

Last week, Major League Soccer announced the finalists for the MLS WORKS Community MVP Contest presented by Wells Fargo. The Grand Prize winner, as voted by the fans, will be awarded a $10,000 donation for the charity of their choice and a trip to the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game in Portland.

Seattle’s representative is Terry Kegel, who has done extensive work to raise funds for “The Right to Play” through a film he produced in which all funds raised went into the program. “The Right to Play” is a program that provides sporting opportunities to kids who would not otherwise be given this opportunity. Kegel produced the film “I Speak Soccer” and used all funds from the award-winning movie to help those children in his community.

In addition, Kegel also organized the West Seattle Cup, a free, community-based soccer tournament that helped raise cultural awareness in the diverse populous of West Seattle.

Fan voting is open now through July 25 on the MLS WORKS web site: www.MLSsoccer.com/CommunityMVP. Fans may also vote by tweeting: “I vote for the @MLSWORKS @WellsFargo (insert club handle) #CommunityMVP” from 9 am PT on July 24 through 9 am PT on July 25. The Grand Prize winner will be announced on Friday, July 25 at 2pm ET via twitter by @MLSWORKS.
