Rave Report: Galaxy out of CONCACAF Champions League

Juninho

FC Dallas is hosting the 2014 Generation adidas U-17 Cup Final in Texas in April and Sounders FC’s Academy team will be among nine MLS teams taking part in the International Tier.

Grouped with the New York Red Bulls and Colorado Rapids in Group A, Sounders FC will also face a youth squad from Brazil, as the tournament will also include teams from Mexico, Brazil and England in Chivas de Guadalajara, Flamengo and Stoke City.

All 19 MLS teams played in three regional tournaments from August of 2013 through February of 2014 and the top three teams from each group were entered into the International Tier.  The remaining MLS clubs will compete in a national tier, though the New England Revolution and Vancouver Whitecaps FC opted not to participate.

Sounders FC will play five matches from April 14-20 at the Toyota Soccer Center at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

GREEN CHOOSES U.S.

Julian Green trained with the U.S. National Team ahead of this month’s friendly against Ukraine and this week the 18-year-old Bayern Munich winger has chosen to represent the U.S. on the international level, U.S. Soccer announced Tuesday.

Born in Tampa, Fla., Green also holds German citizenship and had the option to play for either the U.S. or Germany and had played for both countries at the youth level.  He filed for a one-time switch on Tuesday and now will only be eligible to play for the U.S.

TWO SOUNDERS CALLED IN TO U.S. U-15s

Sounders FC Academy players Oscar Zepeda and Alec Zimmerman will both get their first taste of international training this month, as they both were called into the 32-man training camp for the U.S. U-15 National Team from March 22-30 in Carson, Calif.

GALAXY ELIMINATED IN CCL QUARTERS

The LA Galaxy went to Mexico for the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal matchup with Tijuana, toting a 1-0 lead in the series.  That lead lasted just 57 seconds into the second leg as Jaime Ayovi equalized in the first minute, then added another to take the lead in the ninth minute and Xolos were off and running.  LA fought back from a 3-0 deficit in the match, but could never equalize and lost the series, 4-3 on aggregate.

On Wednesday, Sporting Kansas City will play the second leg of its series with Cruz Azul while the San Jose Earthquakes face Toluca.  SKC holds a 1-0 lead in its series while San Jose and Toluca are knotted up at 1-1 after the first leg.  Both matches will be played in Mexico.
