Raúl Ruidíaz, Peru pick up three points in 3-1 win over Bolivia at Copa América

Peru celebration

Peru and Seattle Sounders forward Raúl Ruidíaz picked up its first win of the 2019 Copa América on Tuesday, defeating Bolivia 3-1 at the Estádio Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. La Blanquirroja are first in Group A on four points for the time being, with hosts Brazil will face Venezuela later on Tuesday (5:30 p.m. PT; ESPN+).

The Bolivians jumped out to a shocking lead in the 28th minute when Marcelo Moreno calmly dispatched his penalty kick, which was awarded after Video Review, past Pedro Gallese. Peru pulled level on the brink of halftime as Paolo Guerrero latched onto a through-ball from Christian Cueva before rounding the Bolivian goalkeeper and finishing into an empty net.

Needing a win after a disappointing draw with Venezuela in their Copa América opener, Peru sealed the victory in the 55th minute, when Jefferson Farfán nodded home a cross from Guerrero. They then added an insurance goal through Edison Flores in the sixth minute of stoppage time after a swift counterattack.

Ruidíaz was once again included on the matchday roster but remained on the bench all afternoon. Peru will wrap up the group stage on June 22 with a match against Brazil (12 p.m. PT; ESPN+)
