Seattle Sounders forward Raúl Ruidíaz won Week 19 MLS Goal of the Week for his ridiculous individual effort in the team’s 2-1 win over Atlanta United on Sunday.
Ruidíaz won back possession by stealing the ball from Julian Gressel before playing a pass to Cristian Roldan. He then made a quick run, settled the pass from Roldan off his chest, headed the ball past a second defender, flicked the ball over 6’2” center back Miles Robinson at full speed and then rifled his volley past Brad Guzan.
Ruidíaz earned almost 80 percent of the vote, with Real Salt Lake’s Jefferson Savarino receiving 12 percent in second place. Jozy Altidore’s set-piece goal grabbed third with five percent, while Colorado Rapids winger Sam Nicholson and DC United attacker Quincy Amerikwa rounded out the vote with two percent and one percent, respectively.
The Sounders return to action in Week 20 with a Cascadia clash against the Portland Timbers on Sunday at CenturyLink Field (6:30 p.m. PT; FS1, YouTube TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360AM; TICKETS)
