It’s been another solid week of national recognition for Sounders FC.
In addition to left wingback Brad Smith earning MLS Team of the Week honors, the club has been named in the top three of league-wide weekly Power Rankings by MLSsoccer.com and ESPN.com.
Coming off a 1-1 draw against LAFC, the Rave Green were billed as the No. 3 team in the league by MLSsoccer.com and No. 2 over at ESPN.
“Seattle and their Nicolás Lodeiro-less 3-5-2 has thumped Minnesota and picked up a road point against LAFC,” wrote MLSsoccer.com. columnist J. Sam Jones. “Homegrown Josh Atencio has filled in nicely in the midfield and the Sounders have largely looked like the Sounders. Even without a key piece like Lodeiro. “
“Brad Smith's first MLS goal early in the second half rescued a point for the Sounders in a 1-1 draw at LAFC,” added ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura. “Their next game against the Galaxy begins a stretch in which the Sounders will play on four consecutive Sundays in a busy month of May.”
Head Coach Brian Schmetzer and his staff will enjoy another week of training as they fine-tune their new system ahead of a top-of-the-table clash with LA Galaxy on Sunday (6:00 p.m. PT; FS1, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM | TICKETS) at Lumen Field.
