The 2020 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas gets underway on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 9:30 a.m. PT with Round 1 and Round 2, while Rounds 3 and 4 will occur via conference call on Jan. 13. Seattle enters the annual league event with following three picks: 35th (Round 2), 52nd (Round 2) and 78th (Round 3). The club does not have any selections in the first or fourth rounds.
As the American player development landscape continues to shift, with increased importance placed on producing Homegrown players, the SuperDraft has undergone a transformation of its own. This year, it will be a co-produced MLS and ESPN Show, streaming live on Twitter. In addition to the studio portion of the programming, cameras will be embedded with eligible college players and relevant Front Office staff at MLS clubs.
Under the stewardship of Sounders FC General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey, the Rave Green have acquired several key contributors via the SuperDraft. In 2015, Seattle traded up to the 16th pick, selecting midfield stalwart Cristian Roldan. The following year, the Sounders dealt their Round One pick and General Allocation Money to the Chicago Fire for Joevin Jones.
