SEATTLE, WASH. – Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Marco Pappa has been called into the Guatemalan National Team for a pair of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Bermuda on June 12 and 15. The Rave Green will be without Pappa for this Saturday’s home match against FC Dallas (7:00 p.m. PT / JOEtv, Univision-Seattle, ROOT Sports, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
Pappa, 27, has 37 caps and 10 goals all-time for Guatemala. At the 2014 Copa Centroamericana, he guided La Azul y Blanco to a runner-up finish, qualifying for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, scoring four goals en route to winning the tournament’s Golden Boot (top scorer) and Golden Ball (best player).
In the Second Round of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualification, Guatemala takes on Bermuda in a two-leg aggregate series. The First Leg is on Friday, June 12 at 7:00 p.m. PT at Estadio Mateo Flores in Guatemala City, with the Second Leg taking place on Monday, June 15 at 6:30 p.m. PT in Hamilton, Bermuda. Should Guatemala advance, the Third Round takes place between August 31 – September 8.
Sounders FC returns home this Saturday, June 13 for its second match of the season against Western Conference rival FC Dallas. Local television coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. PT on JOEtv, with Univision-Seattle also carrying the match in Spanish. ROOT SPORTS showing the contest outside of Western Washington throughout the Pacific Northwest, and local radio coverage is being carried by KIRO Radio 97.3 FM and El Rey 1360 AM.
