Sounders FC midfielder Marco Pappa and the Guatemalan National Team are back in action Tuesday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. Currently at No. 82 in the FIFA World Rankings, Guatemala will face El Salvador at 8:00 p.m. PT after losing 1-0 to Canada last Friday.
Pappa, who started the first two matches of the season for Seattle, has 12 goals in 38 appearances for Guatemala since making his debut against the United States in 2008.
The last time he represented his country, Pappa won the Golden Ball and Golden Boot at the 2014 Copa Centroamericana by scoring four goals in four games and leading Guatemala to a second-place finish. His memorable performance in the tournament included a brace against Tuesday’s opponent, El Salvador, in a 2-1 victory during the group stage.
Guatemala lost to Costa Rica in the final of the Copa Centroamericana, but its runner-up finish clinched a spot for the team in this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Pappa is expected to be available for Saturday night’s Sounders FC match against the Houston Dynamo.
