Tickets for Seattle Sounders FC’s match against the Portland Timbers in the Fourth Round of the 2019 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup are now available! The regional clash, set for Wednesday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. PT marks the first time in club history that a First Team competition will be held in Tacoma’s Cheney Stadium.
“Bringing a First Team match to Tacoma is something we’re thrilled about, and we know our fans will continue creating their hallmark home-field advantage on the south side of the sound,” General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey said.
The Rave Green are no strangers to the South Sound, with the organization jointly operating Tacoma Defiance alongside its partners at the Tacoma Rainiers. Formerly known as S2, Tacoma Defiance has played USL matches in Tacoma the past two seasons.
Known as the best soccer rivalry in MLS, Seattle and Portland have faced off on five occasions in the U.S. Open Cup, with the Sounders holding a 4-1-0 advantage. Most recently against the Timbers, the Sounders advanced on a 2-1 result in the tournament’s Fourth Round in 2017.
