Major League Soccer on Monday named Sounders FC center back Nouhou to the Week 6 MLS Team of the Week bench for his performance in Seattle’s 1-1 draw with Atlanta United at Lumen Field on Sunday. At least one member of the Rave Green has made each Team of the Week through the first six weeks of the 2021 MLS regular season.
Nouhou, 23, has excelled in Sounders FC’s new 3-5-2 formation this year, operating as a a shutdown defender on the left side of the three-man backline. Earning national plaudits on a weekly basis, the Cameroonian left center back put in another strong shift against Atlanta as he won three tackles and 80% of his duels.
With the draw on Sunday, Sounders FC set a franchise record for the best start to a season in club history during the MLS era, going 5-0-2 and sitting atop the Supporters’ Shield standings. The team still has not conceded a goal from open play.
Nouhou and the Sounders return to action on Sunday as they host MLS newcomers Austin FC (6:30 p.m. PT; FS1, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM | TICKETS) at Lumen Field in the final match before a two-week international break.
