SEATTLE, WASH. – Sounders FC forward Jordan Morris and midfielder Cristian Roldan have been called into the annual U.S. Men’s National Team Camp, which begins on January 5. The USMNT will train and play closed-door scrimmages from January 5-25 at the Aspire Academy in Doha, Qatar, before returning to Los Angeles to face Concacaf rival Costa Rica on February 1 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. The camp kicks off a busy year for the USMNT, as it competes in the Concacaf Nations League semifinal in June and the start of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying in September.
Morris has 39 career caps and 10 international goals, including five goals and a team-leading six assists in 2019. A finalist for 2019 U.S. Soccer’s Male Athlete of the Year award, Morris was part of nine of the 16 goals scored in the USMNT's last five matches and finished as the leading scorer (4) in Concacaf Nations League Group A play. Morris had a standout 2019 MLS season in which he won Sounders FC Team MVP and MLS Comeback Player of the Year, returning from a torn ACL that caused him to miss the entirety of 2018 to record 13 goals and eight assists in MLS play in 2019 (including postseason) as the club won its second MLS Cup title.
Roldan has 19 appearances for the USMNT since making his debut in 2017. A regular contributor in 2019, Roldan started 10 of his 14 appearances in Berhalter’s first year as Head Coach. The University of Washington product started all 29 of his MLS regular season appearances in 2019, matching a career high with six goals to go along with five assists before playing every minute of the postseason.
Sounders FC begins its 2020 preseason on January 14 at Starfire Sports before opening its campaign on February 20 in Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Round of 16 action against Honduran side CD Olimpia. Seattle begins its 12th MLS season with a home match on Sunday, March 1 at 12:00 p.m. PT against Chicago Fire FC at CenturyLink Field.
