SEATTLE, WASH. – Sounders FC (7-7-2, 23 points) saw its four-match unbeaten streak come to an end on Wednesday evening with a 2-1 loss to CF Montréal (9-6-2, 29 points) at Lumen Field. Jordan Morris scored the lone goal for the home side as Seattle concluded its five-match home stand with a 3-1-1 record and a 11-4 goal differential. Mason Toye recorded a brace for the visitors, who jumped to the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
Morris got Seattle on the board in the third minute with his 50th career goal across all competitions with Sounders FC, the fifth player in club history to reach the mark. After receiving a long ball from Cristian Roldan near the top of the area, Morris took a turn and launched a low shot across the face of goal and into the net. It was Morris’ second consecutive game with a goal and eighth of the season across all competitions, tied with Raúl Ruidíaz and Nicolás Lodeiro for the team lead (Morris and Ruidíaz are tied for first in MLS play with five goals apiece). Roldan’s assist gives him a team-leading five in MLS action and 10 across all competitions in 2022.
Montréal responded in the 18th minute on the break, with forward Kei Kamara laying off a ball for Toye in a two-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. Toye’s clinical finish beat Stefan Frei at the far post for the equalizer. The visitors found the winner in the 62nd minute when Kamara dribbled up the left flank before squeezing a low cross to the foot of Toye, who redirected the ball into goal to secure his brace.
Following tonight's match, the Rave Green hit the road to face Toronto FC on Saturday, July 2 (4:30 p.m. PT / FOX 13+, Prime Video, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM). The club then returns home for the first match of the season with archrival Portland on Sunday, July 9 at Lumen Field (1:30 p.m. PT / FOX, FOX Deportes, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360 AM).

- Due to pandemic-related scheduling quirks, tonight’s game was the first matchup between Seattle and Montréal since 2019 and just the ninth contest overall, with the Rave Green now trailing in the all-time series 2-6-1. Montréal is the only team to win more than half of its games against Sounders FC among clubs the Rave Green have played more than five times.
- With Seattle’s opening goal in the third minute of play, Jordan Morris recorded his 50th career tally for the Rave Green across all competitions. - With the assist on Morris’ goal, Cristian Roldan now has 10 assists across all competitions in 2022, leading the club. Roldan has five helpers in MLS play, and his five assists in Concacaf Champions League action led that tournament.
- Today’s loss marked the conclusion of a five-game stretch at Lumen Field for Sounders FC. The club won its first two matches of the home stand against Charlotte (May 29) and Vancouver (June 14), followed by a 1-1 draw with LAFC (June 18) and Saturday’s win over Sporting Kansas City, good for 10 points out of a possible 15.
- During the five-match home stand, Seattle outscored its opponents 11-4 in those contests. Seattle is outscoring its opponents 30-12 at home in 2022 across all competitions.
