MLS Regular Season
Score: Sounders FC 3 vs. Colorado Rapids 1
Goal-scorers: Lamar Neagle (5’, 25’), Gabriel Torres (22’), Obafemi Martins (73’)
Site: Dick’s Sporting Goods Park
Man of the Match: Lamar Neagle was disappointed in his performance against the LA Galaxy last weekend, when the 27-year-old failed to score despite hitting five shots on target. Neagle had just as many chances to score on Saturday, and this time, he was able to finish two of them. Playing on the left wing, Neagle gave Sounders FC an early lead by curling a shot into the far corner from the edge of the 18-yard-box. Three minutes after the Rapids equalized, Neagle scored the game-winner by tapping in the rebound of his own shot right in front of goal.
Telling Stat: Seattle and Colorado combined to take 44 shots in Saturday night’s match, the most of any game in Sounders FC history. Both teams had nine shots on target, with the Rapids firing 27 total shots and the Sounders attempting 17.
The Rave Green scored three goals on a Colorado side that had kept clean sheets in four of its first five matches. It was also the first time a Sounders FC player other than Clint Dempsey or Obafemi Martins has found the back of the net this season.
What You Missed: Dempsey was back in the lineup on Saturday after missing last weekend’s match due to a hamstring injury. He played 70 minutes and picked up his third assist of the season, which is tied for second among MLS players.
In addition, third-year defender Dylan Remick made his third straight start at left back Saturday night. After sitting on the bench for the first three matches and playing one game with S2, Remick has established himself as a regular in Sigi Schmid’s lineup.
So What: Sounders FC picked up its first road win of the season and bounced back from a 1-0 loss to the LA Galaxy. Seattle also improved to 12-2-2 against Colorado in MLS regular-season play. Up next for the Rave Green is their first Cascadia match of the season on Sunday, April 26, when they host the Portland Timbers at CenturyLink Field.
