Telling Stat: 18. That was the number of seconds it took Clint Dempsey to open the scoring on Saturday. It was the fastest goal across all competitions in Sounders FC history, breaking Roger Levesque’s record that was set 48 seconds into a 2009 U.S. Open Cup match. Dempsey also holds the record for fastest World Cup goal in U.S. Men’s National Team history, scoring 29 seconds into the USA’s win over Ghana last summer.
What You Missed: The Rave Green was without its Head Coach on Saturday, as Brian Schmetzer manned the sidelines while Sigi Schmid attended his son’s wedding. Schmid will return to the team on Monday.
Former Sounders winger Sanna Nyassi was in the lineup for San Jose on Saturday, playing 72 minutes at outside midfield. Nyassi made 38 appearances for Seattle from 2008-2010.
So What: Sounders FC is now 1-1-0 as it heads into a two-week break from MLS action. The club’s next fixture is an international friendly with Club Tijuana – the current first-place team in Mexico’s Liga MX – on March 24 at CenturyLink Field.
