Telling Stat: Sounders FC is now 11-0-3 when attendance exceeds 40,000 at CenturyLink Field. This season, Seattle is a perfect 3-0-0 with shutouts in all three matches against the San Jose Earthquakes (1-0 on May 17), Portland Timbers (2-0 on July 13) and now the Dynamo. Announced attendance on Sunday was 50,276.
What You Missed: Sunday marked Sounders FC Head Coach Sigi Schmid’s 200th career MLS victory. He earned his 125th victory in 2009 to become the league’s all-time leader in coaching victories and on Sunday reached another career milestone. He is 32 wins ahead of Bruce Arena, who is second on the all-time list.
So What: For one day, Seattle trailed Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference standings. It was the first time Sounders FC had been out of the top spot since April 19. Now on Saturday, Seattle will face the No. 2 team in the West in a showdown with Real Salt Lake. The same two teams met in the same scenario on May 31, with Sounders FC winning 4-0 over RSL at CenturyLink Field. This time, Seattle will do it without Obafemi Martins, who received two yellow cards against Houston for a red card ejection. He will serve a one-match suspension against RSL. First, though, Sounders FC hosts the Chicago Fire on Wednesday at Starfire Soccer Stadium in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinal.
