Score: Sounders FC 1 vs. San Jose Earthquakes 0
Site: CenturyLink Field
Records: Sounders FC (8-3-1, 25 points); Earthquakes (2-4-4, 10 points)
Man of the Match: The first-half goal from Obafemi Martins was the stuff of legend. In the absence of Clint Dempsey, Seattle needed to find someone to take the shoulder the offensive load and Martins did just that with his hold up play throughout the match, but his goal in eighth minute set the tone for Sounders FC.
Telling Stat: 49,746. That was the attendance as Sounders FC opened the full stadium for the first of six times this season. Seattle improved to 9-0-3 all-time when attendance exceeds 40,000 for a winning percentage of .833.
What You Missed: San Jose had just five players on the bench because of injuries, suspensions and international duty. Defender Jason Hernandez also missed the match after his father unexpectedly passed away on Friday. The Earthquakes wore black armbands in his honor.
So What: Sounders FC maintains its grasp of the top spot in the Supporters' Shield standings and extends its home winning streak to four matches. It was also the first clean sheet for Stefan Frei since a 2-0 win over the Montreal Impact on March 23. Seattle has one more home match before the World Cup break on May 31 against Real Salt Lake.
