MLS Regular Season
Score: Sounders FC 0 at Montreal Impact 1
Goal-scorers: Laurent Ciman (88’)
Site: Stade Saputo
Man of the Match: Chad Marshall. Although Sounders FC gave up a late goal that decided the match, Marshall did his part in keeping Montreal off the scoreboard for nearly the full 90 minutes. Marshall, who will be playing in his fourth MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, won several headers inside the Seattle box and blocked a couple of Montreal shots to keep the match close.
Telling Stat: It was the third straight game in which the Sounders were downed on a goal in the final six minutes. Montreal controlled the run of play throughout the match, owning 61 percent of possession and landing a half-dozen shots on target. Seattle took just three total shots in the game.
What You Missed: Head Coach Sigi Schmid utilized a 4-3-3 formation for the second straight game, making just one change to the starting lineup that faced the Colorado Rapids last weekend. Recent signing Erik Friberg once again started in the midfield, playing 78 minutes on Saturday.
So What: Sounders FC has now suffered five straight road losses and six defeats in its last seven games overall. Next up for the Rave Green is their first full-stadium home match of the year, a clash with Vancouver Whitecaps FC on August 1. A victory in that game would clinch the 2015 Cascadia Cup for Seattle. Clint Dempsey and Brad Evans, who have been playing with the U.S. National Team at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, could be available for selection next weekend.
