Seattle

Marshall winner seals yet another comeback victory for the Sounders as they top Philadelphia 2-1

Chad Marshall

SEATTLE, Wash. - Chad Marshall scored the second-half winner as Seattle Sounders FC (6-2-1, 19 points) won its fourth consecutive match, defeating the Philadelphia Union (1-3-5, 8 points), 2-1, on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field on Saturday night.

Sounders FC sits first in MLS and is unbeaten in five-straight matches, improving to 3-2-0 at home. Seattle leads MLS with 20 goals on the season, including 10 tallies in the final 30 minutes.

Marshall scored the winner in the 84th minute off of a Marco Pappa corner kick. Marshall headed the ball to the top left corner for his first goal for Sounders FC, including a goal (1) or assist (2) in the past three games.

Trailing 1-nil after the first half, Seattle netted the equalizer in the 61st minute when Brad Evans directed a header into the box for Obafemi Martins, who received the ball and tapped it in with a left-footed shot for his fourth goal of the season.

Philadelphia opened the scoring in the 13th minute on a Seattle own goal conceded by Evans. Philadelphia's Vincent Maidana took a free kick into the box, which deflected off Evans and into the net.

Seattle nearly tied the game in the 40th minute on a penalty kick attempt by Osvaldo Alonso, which was stopped by Zac MacMath. The attempt came after Amobi Okugo was called for a handball in the box on a sliding challenge on Gonzalo Pineda.

In the 51st minute, Seattle's Dylan Remick left the game due to injury and was replaced by Pappa.

Sounders FC hosts FC Dallas on Wednesday at 7 p.m. PT on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field.
