Major League Soccer on Monday named Seattle Sounders defender Román Torres to its Week 31 Team of the Week for his match-winning display against Minnesota United on Sunday.
The Panamanian center back notched his first-ever MLS goal in the 29th minute, nodding a cross from Joevin Jones past Minnesota goalkeeper Vito Mannone. Starting his first match since the team’s 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on July 27, Torres was a key contributor as he battled with Darwin Quintero and Ángelo Rodríguez all afternoon. With one block, one interception, four recoveries and six clearances, he played a critical role in Seattle collecting its tenth shutout of the 2019 season.
With the win, the Rave Green secured the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference for the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs. After the international break, Seattle will host FC Dallas in a Round One tilt at CenturyLink Field on October 19 at 12:30 p.m. PT. Single-match tickets go on sale to the public on Monday, October 7, at 2:00 p.m. PT at SoundersFC.com/Tickets or by calling 877-MLS-GOAL.
