Episode 9 of "Winging it with Zakuani" returns for Episode 9 following the Sounders 2-2 draw on the road at Sporting Kansas City over the weekend. Host Steve Zakuani analyzes the match saying, "Every time you draw a game, a tie, it either feels like a win or it feels like a defeat, and with this one that happened on Sunday I'm struggling to figure out which one it feels like."
The #AskSteve segment occurs at the 07:58 mark of the show followed by former Sounder and Seattle native Darren Sawatsky joining Zakuani at the 11:00-minute mark. Among the highlights of Sawatzky's interview is his role in forming the Sounders Academy and producing players such as DeAndre Yedlin.
"The state president at the time and Adrian [Hanauer] offered me the opportunity to start the Academy and that first class of Academy guys included Darwin [Jones] and DeAndre and it was very, very good. We had coached them in ODP, so we had a long history with them."
Later in the podcast, Zakuani resurfaces the topic of why the U.S. Men's National Team failed to qualify for this summer's World Cup and culminates the show with his "Big Three Things" at the 23:20 mark.
