SEATTLE – The stars are coming out to play at CenturyLink Field as Sounders FC meets the LA Galaxy on Monday night in a nationally televised match on ESPN2.
Sounders FC Head Coach Sigi Schmid is starting an explosive offense against the Galaxy as Seattle looks to regain sole possession of first place in the MLS Supporters’ Shield standings after Sporting Kansas City drew level on points over the weekend.
Thus far this season, Seattle’s starting front six of Lamar Neagle, Gonzalo Pineda, Osvaldo Alonso and Marco Pappa in the midfield with Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins at forward has played 405 minutes together. In that short time – less than five full matches of playing time – they have shown to be a potent scoring combination, netting 10 goals and seven assists among them when they are all on the field together.
That group will get the start against a Galaxy defense that has allowed just 16 goals through 17 matches this season for the second-best goals against average in MLS.
On defense for Seattle, Dylan Remick will make his first start since a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union on May 3. He'll play on the left side, DeAndre Yedlin will start on the right, and Jalil Anibaba and Zach Scott will play as the central pair. Stefan Frei remains the starting goalkeeper.
