TUKWILA, Wash. – Sounders FC’s quest for the club’s fourth U.S. Open Cup title resumes on Wednesday night against the Chicago Fire at Starfire Stadium. The lineups are in and Sounders FC Head Coach Sigi Schmid is fielding a team with an eye on reaching the fifth championship match in six seasons.
Fresh off his league-leading seventh shutout of the season, Stefan Frei will start in goal behind a back four of DeAndre Yedlin on the right, Brad Evans on the left and a central pair of Jalil Anibaba and Zach Scott. This is Yedlin’s second start of the tournament and comes after he missed Sunday’s 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo in regular season play while his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur was completed. The deal with the English Premier League club was finalized on Wednesday morning and he will remain with Seattle through the end of the 2014 season.
In the midfield, Osvaldo Alonso starts in the middle with Andy Rose, flanked by Lamar Neagle and Marco Pappa, who played for Chicago from 2008-2012.
At forward, Sounders FC’s top scorer in the 2014 Open Cup, Kenny Cooper, will start along with Chad Barrett.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm PT from Starfire Stadium. The match will be streamed live on SoundersFC.com.
