Seattle Sounders winger Jordan Morris keeps reaching new heights with his hometown club.
When Morris scored in the first half of Seattle’s match against CF Montréal on on Wednesday night, it marked his 50th goal for the club across all competitions.
“It feels great,” Morris told media following the match. “It’s just an honor to play for this club that I grew up supporting.”
Morris finds himself in elite company of all-time great attacking players for Sounders FC, joining Fredy Montero (73), Raúl Ruidíaz (69), Clint Dempsey (57) and Nicolás Lodeiro (52) as the only players to break the 50-goal mark for the Rave Green in the MLS era.
Since signing with the Sounders as a Homegrown Player in 2016, Morris has repeatedly written himself into the record books with his boyhood club. In addition to his individual accolades, Morris has been part of some of the greatest teams in Sounders history. Over the past six years, the Sounders Academy alum has won MLS Cup twice and was instrumental to Seattle becoming the first team in MLS to win the Concacaf Champions League.
“I’m a goal scorer, I love to score goals,” added Morris. “I wouldn’t be at this point without my teammates.”
Adding to Morris’ remarkable achievement is that he reached it despite effectively missing two full seasons after suffering ACL injuries in 2018 and 2021. He also continues to add new facets to his game, with the Mercer Island native contributing 29 assists from all competitions.
Always a team-first player, Morris was left frustrated by Wednesday night’s match despite his historic accomplishment.
“It was a big opportunity for us to keep climbing the table,” said Morris. “When we play at home, we want to win. So, it was a tough result.”
