Sounders FC needed a Herculean effort from its defense to earn a 1-0 shutout victory over the Columbus Crew on Saturday after losing Leo Gonzalez to a red card ejection in the seventh minute. Led by Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Seattle got just that as it extended its shutout streak to two matches and 196 minutes.
For his efforts, Hurtado was named to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Week, earning the honor for the first time in 2013.
The 29-year-old center back had game-highs with seven clearances and six interceptions to help Seattle to its ninth shutout of the season.
Hurtado was joined on Team of the Week by goalkeeper Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire); defenders Aurelien Collin (Sporting Kansas City) and Fabinho (Philadelphia Union); midfielders Marcelo Sarvas (LA Galaxy), Lloyd Sam (New York Red Bulls), Javier Morales (Real Salt Lake) and Sean Franklin (LA Galaxy); and forwards Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy), Joao Plata (Real Salt Lake) and Erick Torres (Chivas USA).
Eddie Johnson was among the players listed as honorable mention for scoring his seventh goal of the season in the match.
