The Seattle Sounders fell 2-1 at Santa Tecla FC in El Salvador last Thursday in the first leg of the Round of 16 in CONCACAF Champions League. Now with the return leg set for Thursday at CenturyLink Field (7 p.m. PT; SoundersFC.com, Univision, Goal90 | TICKETS), here is how Seattle can advance to face the winner of Chivas and Cibao FC.
TO ADVANCE
A 1-0 win on Thursday or a win of any kind of at least two goals would send Seattle through to the quarterfinals.
TO FORCE EXTRA TIME
The match would head directly to a penalty-kick shootout only if Seattle wins 2-1. The two teams would be even on aggregate score as well as away goals, the first tiebreaker.
FACING ELIMINATION
If Seattle loses or draws, Santa Tecla would advance. Additionally, if Seattle wins 3-2, or by any one-goal score higher than that, Santa Tecla would advance by virtue of more away goals.
