Sounders FC announced on Thursday the signing of George Adamou as the club’s new official eMLS player.
Adamou will represent the Rave Green at all official eMLS competitions. A 2020 eMLS Cup Champion and four-time eMLS League Series and Cup finalist, he brings an unprecedented pedigree of success in the FIFA video game series to the club.
“The Sounders showed a lot of interest and belief in me, so it was a no-brainer,” Adamou told SoundersFC.com. “I want to be somewhere where we’re both on the same page and both have the same goals this year, which is to bring a trophy to Seattle.”
Adamou joins the Sounders with previous eMLS experience competing for the New York Red Bulls and Houston Dynamo. Prior to dominating in FIFA, his journey with the game began on the pitch as a college soccer player.
A member of the Adelphi University Men’s Soccer Team, FIFA was a fun hobby that Adamou used to play with his brother and teammates. Unfortunately, an injury suffered during his freshman season meant he had to hang up his cleats. His brother encouraged him to sign up for a Gfinity tournament in Miami back in 2020, and to his surprise he finished eighth in the world.
“It just gave me a big confidence boost,” recalled Adamou. “From there, I started to check out what the pro scene looks like.”
Emerald City Pack
This pack includes a ticket to our first three home matches of the 2023 season and a special limited-run Sounders FC World Cup themed scarf.
Adamou has quickly risen the ranks to become one of the best professional FIFA players in North America. He chose to represent the Sounders because it’s an organization that matches his own ambitions.
“The Sounders are a club I wanted to play for because we have a big history in the actual MLS,” he said. “We’ve won multiple trophies. It’s a very successful organization. We haven’t that much success on the esports side. I’ve won a trophy every year during my career as a FIFA pro so I’m looking to continue that. I hope I can make people proud.”
A lifelong fan of the game, Adamou employs an attack-minded, exciting brand style of play in FIFA.
While Adamou is looking forward to winning more trophies, he’s equally excited about connecting with Sounders fans and becoming a part of the community.
“I hope that I can make Sounders fans proud. I’m hoping to grow the fanbase for esports in Seattle. I know FIFA is a super popular game over there and I’m hoping I can connect with the fans. Hopefully I can represent the club and win trophies just like the First Team has always done.
