SEATTLE, WASH. – Four additional Sounders FC players have been called into national team duty during the club’s two-week FIFA international break from MLS action. Román Torres and Joevin Jones are set to join Panama and Trinidad & Tobago, respectively, for of a pair of 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, joining forwards Clint Dempsey and Jordan Morris, who have already joined the U.S. National Team for a pair of matches in the Hexagonal, CONCACAF’s final round of FIFA World Cup Qualifying. Additionally, Oniel Fisher has been called in by Jamaica and Jordy Delem by Martinique for the Knockout Stage of the 2017 Caribbean Cup.
Torres, who has 81 career international caps and 12 goals, captains Panama in a pair of FIFA World Cup Qualifiers at Costa Rica on June 8 and against Honduras in Panama City on June 13. Los Canaleros are currently third in the Hexagonal with five points through four matches (1-1-2).
Jones joins Trinidad & Tobago for a June 8 clash with Dempsey, Morris and the U.S. National Team on June 8 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. The Soca Warriors then head to San Jose, Costa Rica to take on Los Ticos on June 13. With just one win in four matches so far in the Hexagonal, Trinidad & Tobago sits at the bottom of the table with three points, but have six matches remaining to jump into the top four and stay alive for a berth in Russia.
Four teams remain in the 2017 Caribbean Cup hosted by Martinique, the 19th edition of the regional tournament organized by the Caribbean Football Union. Fisher’s Jamaica squad takes on French Guiana in the first semifinal match, before Delem and the host nation face Curaçao at Stade Pierre-Aliker in Fort-de-France. Both semifinal fixtures are being played on June 22, with final and third-place match set to take place on June 25. All four teams remaining in the tournament have already secured berths in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Prior to the Caribbean Cup, Jamaica is set to face Peru in a friendly on June 13 in Arequipa.
With 15 matches played thus far in the 2017 MLS regular season, Sounders FC now heads into the upcoming FIFA international break after winning three of its past four contests. Seattle resumes play on Tuesday, June 13 when the Rave Green host Portland in the Fourth Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Starfire Stadium (7:00 p.m. PT / SoundersFC.com, KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360 AM).
