RENTON, WASH. – The Seattle Sounders FC announced today that the New Zealand National Team has called up forward Jarrod Smith for the FIFA Confederations Cup and related friendlies.
Smith, who is currently on the injured reserve list, will travel Sunday, May 31, to join the national team.
Smith was last called up by New Zealand in late March for friendlies at Thailand, but he did not see action.
New Zealand will train in Botswana prior to friendlies with Botswana and Tanzania. The All Whites face Italy in another friendly on June 10 in Pretoria, South Africa. New Zealand faces Spain (June 14), host South Africa (June 17) and Iraq (June 20) in Confederations Cup group play.
Smith played 25 minutes for Seattle in an April 28 U.S. Open Cup Play-In game against Real Salt Lake.
