The 0-0 result had by LA and San Jose on Sunday night ensured that the Sounders would be in the playoffs for a fifth straight season.
Sounders FC has clinched a berth in the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs, marking the club’s fifth consecutive postseason berth. Seattle qualified for the playoffs last night as the San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy played to a scoreless draw at the StubHub Center.
Sounders FC is one of just three teams (LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake) to qualify for the playoffs every year since 2009. Seattle’s five straight appearances is the second-longest postseason streak in MLS behind Real Salt Lake (six straight appearances).
Last year, Seattle reached the Western Conference Championship for the first time in club history, falling to the LA Galaxy, 4-2, in the aggregate-goal series after posting a 1-0 series win over Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference Semifinals.
Sounders FC is currently fourth in the Western Conference at 15-12-6 (51 points) and still has a chance of finishing first in the conference with a win in the season finale on Sunday against the Galaxy.
Sounders FC’s first home playoff match will be played between Wednesday, October 30 and Thursday, November 7. The date, time and opponent are still to be determined. The final playoff schedule will be determined immediately following the regular season finale versus the LA Galaxy on Sunday.
