The Seattle Sounders are hosting Sporting Kansas City on Sunday (1:30 p.m. PT; Watch free on Apple TV | TICKETS) at Lumen Field. Here are five reasons to watch the two team’s second meeting of the 2023 season.
Lumen Field Fortress
The Sounders have yet to give up a goal at home this season and are looking to continue that streak come Sunday afternoon. With the fans’ support and the overall environment that makes up Lumen Field, it will be difficult for any opponent to come out of Lumen Field unscathed.
Top of the West
With last weekend’s tie against Real Salt Lake, the Sounders currently sit at the No. 1 spot in the Western Conference. A win this weekend will allow them to maintain that position and continue their path toward the Supporters’ Shield.
Run It Back
The Sounders are looking to defeat Sporting Kansas City for the second time this season. The last time the two teams battled it out, the Rave Green took home a 4-1 win on the road. While the first match ended in Seattle’s favor, to win a second time around is a daunting task, making this weekend’s matchup that much more competitive.
Dynamic Duo
The last time the two teams went head-to-head, veteran forward Jordan Morris tallied four goals for his team on the road. Now, with the added home-support behind him, he will aim to add a couple more goals to the score sheet against the visitors on Sunday.
Morris will be supported by Léo Chú, who dished out assists on all four of the Mercer Island Magician’s goals. The Chú-Morris duo will be back in action on Sunday with another stellar performance on their minds.
Matchday Activations
In honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Sounders will continue their partnership with Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience. During the match on Sunday, there will be a pop-up museum exhibit at Lumen Field. Additionally, there will be food trucks from Bang Thai on Wheels and Tabassum in the North Plaza, accompanied by a performance by Mak Fai, Seattle’s premier lion dance troupe.
