Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann has cut his roster down to 22 players for a friendly with South Korea and the Seattle stars will remain in California as Sounders FC starts training camp.
U.S. Soccer announced the 22 players that will train next week in Carson, Calif., ahead of the February 1 friendly against South Korea and the list includes two players from Sounders FC – Brad Evans and DeAndre Yedlin.
The Seattle duo was among the 26 players that opened the training camp on January 7 and went with the team to Sao Paulo, Brazil, as part of a “dry run” for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in June. Both players are included in Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann's final roster for the friendly next Saturday.
Among those who will rejoin their club teams are Colorado Rapids defenders Chris Klute and Shane O’Neill, Sporting Kansas City defenders Chance Myers and Seth Sinovic and Houston Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall. Newly signed Columbus Crew defender Michael Parkhurst was also added to the roster as the U.S. squad returns to training in California on Monday.
Evans and Yedlin are expected to rejoin Sounders FC at training camp in Tucson, Ariz., after the friendly against South Korea.
FORMER SOUNDER SIGNS WITH SAN JOSE
After playing the 2013 season with the New York Cosmos, former Sounders FC goalkeeper Bryan Meredith signed with the San Jose Earthquakes on Friday, making him the second former Seattle netminder to sign with a west coast club this off season. Andrew Weber signed with the Portland Timbers.
Meredith, who was a Supplemental Draft pick for Seattle in 2011 and won the PDL Championship with the Kitsap Pumas that year, played 12 matches for Sounders FC in 2012, sporting a 3-3-5 record with three shutouts and a 1.27 goals against average.
The Earthquakes also signed former New York Red Bulls defender Brandon Barklage and former Columbus Crew defender Shaun Francis on Friday.
TORONTO SIGNS BLACKBURN DEFENDER ON LOAN
Toronto FC has been active in the offseason and on Friday it added 31-year-old English defender Bradley Orr on loan from Blackburn Rovers of the English Championship. In addition to his time with Blackburn, the veteran right back has also played with Burnley, Bristol City, Queens Park Rangers, Ipswich Town and Blackpool in the top two divisions in England.
TWO GET PICKED IN WAIVER DRAFT
Christiano Francois and Giusseppe Gentile both signed with MLS after the MLS SuperDraft to forgo their remaining college eligibility and on Friday, both were taken in the waiver draft.
The spoils keep on coming for D.C. United as it picked up the Haitian-born forward Francois. The 20-year-old had five goals and four assists in 24 matches for Maryland as a freshman.
Meanwhile the Chicago Fire landed Gentile, who played three seasons with UNC-Charlotte and notched 27 goals and 12 assists.
