Seattle Sounders FC has traded midfielder/forward David Estrada to D.C. United in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, the club announced today.
Estrada, 26, was originally selected by Sounders FC with the 11th overall pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft on January 14, 2010. He has started 18 of 41 appearances in his five seasons with Sounders FC, scoring five goals.
"David has been a fantastic member of our organization, both on and off the field, for the past five years," said Owner and General Manager Adrian Hanauer. "He has made great contributions to the team’s performance and has been very involved in the community. We wish David the very best at D.C. United.”
Estrada has made one appearance in the 2014 MLS regular season, logging five minutes in a 1-0 win at D.C. United on June 28. He also played 90 minutes and recorded one assist in a 5-0 win over PSA Elite in the U.S. Open Cup on June 18, and has started three MLS Reserve League matches. Estrada joined the Charlotte Eagles (USL-Pro) on two loan stints this season and also joined the Atlanta Silverbacks (NASL) on loan in April.
Sounders FC hosts the Houston Dynamo on Sunday, August 10. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field.
