This close. Thissssssss close. The USA battled back against Portugal and were mere seconds away from winning 2-1 and qualifying for the knockout stage in style. It was not to be however as Varela headed home a peach of a Ronaldo cross as time ticked off the clock to tie things at 2-2 with no time left on the clock.
We did however get another Clint Dempsey goal and it was just as dramatic as the first one at the 2014 World Cup. With the match all square at 1-1 and under 10 minutes left, Dempsey found himself in the right place at the right time as he tapped home the Graham Zusi cross from inside the area to give Jurgen Klinsmann's men the 2-1 lead. It was his fourth all-time World Cup goal...which is pretty awesome. No...very awesome.
See you on Thursday, Germany...and get ready to rumble.
