Earlier today, Sounders FC forward Clint Dempsey announced his retirement from professional soccer, concluding a historic 15-year career that saw him play for the New England Revolution, Fulham FC, Tottenham Hotspur and Sounders FC, in addition to the U.S. Men’s National Team.
Arguably the most accomplished player in the history of U.S. soccer, Dempsey is to be honored this Sunday, September 1, in a pre-match ceremony before Sounders FC takes on Sporting Kansas City in a 1:00 p.m. PT match (Univision Deportes Network, JOEtv, Twitter, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM).
Media wishing to attend Saturday’s match who are not yet credentialed should contact Matt Winter (MattW@SoundersFC.com) or Kelly Schutz (KellyS@SoundersFC.com) of Sounders FC Communications no later than noon PT this Friday, August 31.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early to CenturyLink Field so as not to miss this singular opportunity to celebrate Dempsey’s career. The first 20,000 through the gates on Saturday receive a special commemorative poster and fans can also take a moment before the match to sign a special farewell tribute to “Deuce” in Soccer Celebration, located in the Northwest Concourse of the stadium.
In order to not miss the ceremony, fans should be in their seats no later than 12:45 p.m. PT.
All credentialed media will have the opportunity to photograph and record b-roll as Dempsey is recognized on the Xbox Pitch for the final time.
