The Seattle Sounders visit New York City FC (6:00 p.m. PT; FS1, TUDN, El Rey 1360AM) on Wednesday at Red Bull Arena in Leg Two of the Concacaf Champions League Semifinals. This marks just the second time that the Rave Green have reached the final four of CCL. And with a 3-1 aggregate lead after the first leg in Seattle, the Sounders have put themselves in a strong position to advance to the Champions League Final for the first time in club history.

Through five matches in CCL play, the Seattle Sounders have scored 12 goals and conceded just two. The Rave Green lead the 2022 edition of CCL with most goals scored, showcasing the team’s potent attacking quality, and have posted three clean sheets to date.

Seattle enters Leg Two of its Champions League Semifinals series against New York City FC on 11 points, the most of any team in the tournament. A win against the Cityzens – the reigning MLS Cup Champions – would see the Sounders advance to the CCL Final and host the second the crucial second leg against the winner of the Pumas UNAM – Cruz Azul matchup. The Sounders could also secure home-field advantage with a loss or a draw at NYCFC if the Liga MX teams play to a draw in Leg Two.

Fredy Montero has scored 10 career goals in CCL play, tied for the most all-time of any MLS player in the history of the continental tournament. A goal against NYCFC on Wednesday would see Montero move past former Real Salt Lake player Alvaro Sabario into sole ownership of first place.

Seattle’s Swiss Army Knife Cristian Roldan leads the 2022 Concacaf Champions League in assists with five, one more than Pumas’ Alan Mozo and NYCFC’s Taty Castellanos. Capable of playing numerous positions at an elite level, Roldan has been thriving this season as a winger.

Three Sounders are in the top ten scorers in the 2022 Concacaf Champions League: Montero (three goals), Jordan Morris (three goals) and Nicolás Lodeiro (two goals). Additionally, Kelyn Rowe, Roldan, Albert Rusnák and Léo Chú each have one goal in the tournament.

The Sounders are one result away from advancing to the CCL Final for the first time in club history. Seattle enters Leg Two against New York City FC with a 3-1 lead. A win or draw would see the Rave Green automatically advance, while a one-goal loss or a two-goal loss in which the Sounders score more than once would also secure passage to the next round. If Seattle loses 2-0, NYCFC would win the series on the away goals tiebreaker, while a 3-1 win for the hosts would see the match go straight to penalties. Only four teams from Major League Soccer have ever reached the CCL Final. The winner of the tournament qualifies for the FIFA World Cup, where they will face the winner of the other continental competitions.
