The Sounders FC is finally back home at CenturyLink Field for the first time in nearly a month as it takes on Sporting Kansas City. Brad Evans gives you his Captain's Notes ahead of the contest between the two Western Conference clubs.
Sounders fans, we’re back at home finally after a three-game road stretch. So glad to be back home.
Thinking back on this road stretch - three really difficult opponents. If you would have asked us beforehand or told us we’d get six out of nine points, I think we would have been really happy with that. Even thinking about it now, we can all admit we didn’t have our best game in Columbus and reality is if we would have played a bit better we would have had more.
We’ll take the six and we’ll move on and now we’re back at home for a three-game stretch. Not an easy three-game stretch by any means with three in eight days. First with Sporting Kansas City, a team with very, very good attack, good defense of experienced players. A team that played midweek so we’ve got to be ready for. Maybe some changes in their lineup, maybe not.
Attention turns to us being at home and everybody is excited to be back at CenturyLink. Nothing is a given there but we’ve got to make it a fortress. Kansas City is a very good team, very well-coached, organized and we’ll be for sure looking to get a result especially after our stoppage time winner last year.
Things have changed a bit with us playing them three times this year instead of just one. When we think of season series, we’d like to get a good start and get a win against a Western Conference opponent. So we look to make CenturyLink a fortress.
Looking back at last week against Vancouver, just an extremely good team performance. Everyone came out strong from minute one. We established our style of play and imposed ourselves away from home. Every second ball we fought for and if we bring that against KC, we find ourselves on the right end of the result.
So, we’ve got to bring our A-game and fight for each other. Got to take each half and play to zero. We’re looking forward to this one.
Go Sounders!
