Major League Soccer on Monday named Sounders FC wingback Brad Smith to the Week 2 MLS Team of the Week for his performance in Seattle’s 1-1 draw against LAFC at Banc of California Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Operating in a more advanced role in Sounders FC’s new 3-5-2 system, Smith found himself in the box in the 54th minute to head home a rebound from Raúl Ruidíaz’s initial shot, cancelling out Eduard Atuesta’s opener in the 2nd minute of the match. It was Smith’s second goal of his professional career, something the Australian wide player hopes to make a more regular occurrence this season.
Smith’s inclusion marks the second consecutive week in which Sounders FC players have made the MLS Team of the Week, following in the footsteps of Ruidíaz and Josh Atencio, both of whom made the list for their standout performances against Minnesota United in Week 1.
Smith and the Rave Green return to action this weekend as they host the LA Galaxy (6:00 p.m. PT; FS1, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360 AM) at Lumen Field on Sunday.
