As part of our “Celebrating 10 Years in MLS” campaign, SoundersFC.com has launched a Best XI campaign where fans have the opportunity to vote for the club’s all-time MLS starting lineup. The voting is weighted with four sets of voting contingents: Fans (25 percent), Media (25 percent), Club Stakeholders (25 percent) and Alliance Council (25 percent), with the final Best XI to be revealed on Wednesday, July 10.
The first voting group to determine our Best XI: Goalkeepers (May 15-May 21)
Since 2009, the Sounders have been blessed with a slew of outstanding goalkeepers. Only one, however, can hold the spot on the club’s Best XI.

Highlights
One of the club’s first marquee signings, Kasey Keller starred in goal for the Sounders from 2009-11 after playing professionally in topflight European leagues from 1992-2008. The Olympia, Wash., native also made over 100 appearances for the U.S. national team and appeared on four FIFA World Cup rosters. With the Sounders, Keller made 93 MLS appearances, 270 saves and recorded 30 shutouts, while helping the team earn three Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup trophies and earning MLS Save of the Year and MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2011.
The club’s starting goalkeeper since 2014, Stefan Frei ranks first among the club’s keepers in MLS appearances (175), saves (538) and clean sheets (51). The 33-year-old Swiss native is most fondly remembered for his epic save in the 2016 MLS Cup, retaining a shutout to lead the Rave Green to their first league title. He was also the goalkeeper for the team’s Supporters’ Shield run in 2014 and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup trophy that same season.
Michael Gspurning (above)served as the Sounders’ goalkeeper from 2012-13 and ranks third in club history with 135 saves and 18 shutouts. Marcus Hahnemann, a Seattle native who spent most of his career playing in Europe, has nine U.S. caps and made a handful of appearances for Seattle. Tyler Miller began his career with the Rave Green and now stars for LAFC, while Bryan Meredith is in his second stint with the team for a total of five seasons.
